As Art Basel makes its historic debut in Qatar, BMW is marking the occasion by bringing a legendary icon of art and automotive engineering to the heart of Msheireb Downtown Doha. As part of the prestigious BMW Art Car World Tour, the 1995 BMW Art Car by David Hockney is now on display, transforming the Sahat Wadi Msheireb Plaza into an open-air museum.
The Hockney masterpiece, known for its radical “X-ray” design, offers a transparent vision of the car’s interior—complete with stylized engine parts on the bonnet and the artist’s beloved dachshund, Stanley, painted on the back seat. This exhibition follows the tour’s successful Middle Eastern stop in Dubai and underscores BMW’s 50-year legacy of merging high-performance mobility with contemporary art.
Beyond the outdoor showcase, the BMW Lounge at M7 serves as a cultural hub, featuring opening remarks from global art visionaries and a curated look into the history of the “rolling sculptures.” As a long-standing partner of Art Basel, BMW continues to drive the dialogue between innovation and creativity, cementing Doha’s position as a rising capital for global art and design.
