Cadillac Seville “Designed by Gucci”: The Rare 1970s Fashion-Car Collaboration

Cadillac Seville Designed by Gucci

In the late 1970s, American luxury automaker Cadillac collaborated with Italian fashion house Gucci on a striking special-edition model officially known as the Cadillac Seville “Designed by Gucci.” This unique sedan transformed the European-inspired Seville into an audacious fashion statement in the automotive world.

The Seville Designed by Gucci debuted in 1978 at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, with members of the Gucci family present at the unveiling. At launch, it commanded a premium price—around $20,000, which was significantly higher than the standard Seville’s MSRP at the time and made it one of the most expensive Cadillac models of that era.

What set this edition apart were the unmistakable Gucci design cues: distinctive exterior trim, gold-tone accents, a vinyl roof with the double-G Gucci logo pattern, and a custom interior paired with a matching Gucci luggage set. Production was limited and never officially disclosed, but enthusiasts generally estimate that only a few hundred were created.

Today, surviving examples are rare and highly sought after by collectors. For automotive and fashion aficionados alike, the Cadillac Seville Designed by Gucci remains one of Cadillac’s most unusual and memorable creations, capturing the daring spirit of its time.
