Chery UAE Drives Sustainable Mobility at IUCN 2025

Sustainable Mobility

Sustainable mobility is no longer a vision—it’s becoming a defining reality of how we move, live, and connect. In the Middle East, where the momentum for climate-focused, low-carbon infrastructure is rapidly accelerating, automotive leaders are playing a pivotal role in driving this transformation. Among them stands Chery, represented by AW Rostamani Group in the UAE, stepping into the spotlight as the Exclusive VIP Mobility Partner of the 2025 IUCN World Conservation Congress—the world’s largest environmental decision-making forum, set to take place in Abu Dhabi.

A fleet of 28 Chery plug-in hybrids, including the TIGGO 9 Plug-In Hybrid SUV and the Arrizo 8 Plug-In Hybrid sedan, will serve as the official vehicles transporting delegates during the Congress between October 9 and 15, 2025. This collaboration demonstrates Chery’s commitment to sustainability and highlights AW Rostamani Group’s mission of fostering impactful partnerships that contribute to the UAE’s greener future.

As Zaher Sabbagh, Director of Chery UAE, explains: “This partnership reinforces our sustainability legacy while positioning Chery as an international brand driving innovation with purpose. By putting our plug-in hybrid fleet in service for the IUCN World Conservation Congress, we are amplifying global environmental goals and furthering the UN’s sustainable development agenda.”

Meeting Rising Demand for Eco-Conscious Cars

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are bridging the gap between sustainable lifestyles and everyday driving needs, especially in regions like the Gulf where long distances and extreme climates demand reliability. According to the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook 2024, global sales of electric vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, rose by 35% in 2023, reaching nearly 14 million units. This growing demand underscores how hybrids are not only shaping consumer choices but also contributing to net-zero ambitions.

For city commutes, PHEVs provide clean electric driving, while the integrated combustion engine ensures dependable performance for longer journeys. Their success is expected to accelerate the transition toward fully electrified mobility and strengthen global climate strategies.

Beyond the Vehicle: Chery’s Global Commitment

Globally, Chery has committed to reducing emissions throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle. By 2023, the brand achieved a 95% recyclability rate and 85% reusability rate across all models, setting benchmarks in circular automotive design. From production to end-of-life recycling, Chery’s sustainability approach extends far beyond vehicle performance.

A Bigger Picture for the Planet

Road transportation accounts for nearly 12.2% of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to the World Resources Institute. The adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles offers a tangible pathway to reducing this impact. BloombergNEF forecasts that electrified vehicles will represent over 60% of global passenger car sales by 2035—a milestone that places initiatives like Chery UAE’s at the heart of global environmental progress.

By merging innovation with community engagement, Chery and AW Rostamani Group are proving that sustainable mobility is not only possible but also practical and impactful—shaping a cleaner, more connected future for generations to come.
